\nwill be impacted substantively, yet most companies appear
\nunready to face the changes.
\nGenAI applications stretch far beyond chatbots and text generation \u2014 <\/strong>
\ntheir most popular current forms<\/strong>. In fact, most corporate intellectual
\ntasks currently done by humans are, or will be, impacted. These
\nintellectual tasks include generating content, answering questions,
\nsearching for information, recognizing patterns, optimizing processes
\naround specific tasks, manipulating physical tools, and creating
\ngenuinely original designs, media, and even works of art.<\/p>\n
\nindustries, starting with the obvious and standalone
\nuse cases, such as marketing content generation
\nand customer support, and progressing toward more
\nsophisticated ones, such as financial decision-making,
\nbefore finally moving to the most integrated use cases
\nlike industrial process automation.
\nOverall, however, despite the scale of impact and
\nthe expected benefits, only around 50% of surveyed
\norganizations in our study have thus far made investments
\nor hiring decisions that pursue GenAI, signaling a
\nsurprising degree of unreadiness. Our analysis shows
\nthat sectors that can benefit from stand-alone GenAI
\nsystems, such as media, retail, and healthcare, are furthest
\nalong the readiness curve. Sectors such as telecoms,
\ntravel and transport, automotive and manufacturing, and
\naerospace and defense are more safety critical and highly
\nregulated. Integrating AI with other systems is necessary,
\nputting these industries further behind. Multiple factors
\naffect speed and scale of adoption; trust and business
\ninterest are generally the most significant, followed by
\ncompetence, culture and labor relations, and ease of
\nimplementation, although the dynamics vary by sector.”<\/p>\n
